High Fire Glaze Demo
Students will use the dip method to high fire glaze their tea bowls and coil pots. This method will also be used for the slab box if students run out of time for underglazing. All pieces MUST BE BISQUE FIRED before you apply high fire glaze!
Below are the Potters Choice glaze examples, we do not have every color shown. For a current list, please see the highlighted flyer on the kiln room door.
Unit 3: Slab Box
Students must create a four walled structure, including a base (really 5 walls) using the slab method of construction. The design must include 2 of the following: additive sculpture, subtractive sculpture, and/or texture. Please uses demonstration video for step by step instructions on how to construct the slab box. Independent Study - Project for underclassmen if time allows
Students are to select one of the handbuilding methods covered in class: pinch, coil, slab, or a combination of these techniques. They will create a final product of their choosing. (Please make sure to utilize Pinterest and other internet resources to find inspiration for your concept.) Sketches of the design must be approved and signed by the instructor before the student may begin constructing their piece. Students will only have about 2 weeks to complete this assignment.
